About Noni: What Is The Noni Fruit?

Noni is the fruit of the Morinda Citrifolia plant, found and used in Asia and the South Pacific. Noni has been successfully used as a health food all over the pacific for over 2,000 years. Like many other food supplements, the benefits of noni are wide and diverse.

The scientific name for noni is Morinda citrifolia. The noni plants reaches maturity after about 18 months and grows up to 30 feet tall. One plant will produce 8-18 pounds of fruit per month. The flower of the noni is abeautiful white blossom; the plant will flower and fruit continuously all year long.

The noni fruit has a pungent smell while ripening, earning it the nickname cheese fruit. A noni fruit will be about 2-3 inches and a yellowish-white when ripe. It usually has a strong and bitter taste, but is eaten as a staple food in some cultures.

Where Does Noni Come From

Noni is grown used across the south pacific and asia. Japan, China, Samoa, Tahiti, Malaysia, Australia & Hawaii are some of the places you can find noni in use. Most commercial noni comes from either Tahiti or Hawaii. Marketers have tried to portray that noni from Tahiti (Tahitian Noni) is better than noni from Hawaii or other locations. This is simple not true. There are many factors that affect the quality of a noni product, and which island it came from is not the most important.
